Society Kitchen

So last month my friend wanted to do a Santa Monica ride with various destinations as well as a brunch spot, but he didn’t exactly enjoy planning, but I did. I LOVE doing food restaurant research, especially if it’s breakfast or brunch related because c’mon I LOVE eggs. I would have to say it’s one of the best things mother nature has ever created. My affection for eggs goes beyond this galaxy even… LOL. Anyways, I digress. I did my research and came down to three that I thought was the most suitable with Huckleberry, Society Kitchen and Blue Daisy all located in Santa Monica that looked tasty with a nice atmosphere. We ended up going with Society Kitchen in the end and I’m so glad that we did, the place was amazing albeit with a few hiccups here and there.

We arrived at Society Kitchen around 10:30AM. The plaza that they’re located in provides free parking structure parking as well as a private lot outside. We made our way upstairs and was greeted with their lovely patio that was filled with patrons and dogs alike. Apparently they took reservations, I didn’t know that because their Yelp page specified that they didn’t since I’m always game to make prior reservations for large groups. Good to know for future dates! Although very impressed, even as a large group with no reservations the staff was very kind and efficient, they sat us down within 5-10 minutes even though they were very busy that morning.

Society Kitchen is order at the front, pay then wait for your food so the line can be long and cluttered because the restaurant space was relatively small. I ordered their Mediterranean Omelette with no feta cheese or olives and a side order of roasted potatoes, the boyfriend ordered their lox sandwich with a matcha latte. Food came in a timely matter and upon receiving our dishes they looked delicious and amazing. Mine had a lovely mixed green salad with a light dressing and the boyfriend’s came with some golden thin fries both with a side of toast. I finished my salad first then took a bite into the omelette, I scrunched my face tasting something strange in it, but didn’t think much as I took another bite and it’s when it hit me that it tasted heavily of feta cheese. I poked open my omelette and it was filled with it. It’s because I have a deep dislike of cheese hence why I always ask for no cheese in my dishes. I groaned since I saw that the restaurant was even more hectic than before and knew I couldn’t finish my dish. I was afraid that it might take too long to redo my dish but I took a chance anyways and told them that there was a mistake in my dish and returned it back.

20 minutes go by and everyone in my group finished their meals but mine still hadn’t been returned so I inquired when my food would be coming back. Took them another 5-7 minutes (almost 30  minutes total) to get my dish back and this time there was no cheese, but… There was olives. LOL. It wasn’t the end of the world since I don’t hate olives, just minor dislike of them and I was pressed for time since everyone was done with their food. The omelette was yummy though although the eggs were a little overcooked, but loved the vegetables inside of it. Their roasted potatoes was the best! It was skillet cooked with onions and green bell peppers giving it such nice aroma and flavor. It was warm and soft with the best subtle savory taste of the onion. It was SO GOOD. The boyfriend really enjoyed his lox sandwich, but not so much the matcha latte. It lacked the profile of the matcha flavor and tasted more like he drank a cup of milk.

Overall experience felt average due to slow food service by wait staff, but extra star to the excellent ambiance (love the colors and natural lighting in the restaurant), atmosphere and excellent cashier girl at the front who was really beyond friendly with her contagious smile and casual personality that made us feel so welcomed as well as settling our big group down so fast.
