Chop Chop Grill

We first came upon Chop Chop Grill when they first opened a few years ago and their menu was limited to just katsus. They’re located right across the street from Mt. San Antonio Community College which attracts a plethora of students. They’re definitely small in space and sits about 15 people before it gets really crowded. They also have their own open parking lot that they share with the rest of the plaza so parking isn’t too hard to find.

Recently we saw that they’ve expanded their menu to ramen and to Singaporean dishes which included Hainan Chicken rice entree. My boyfriend and I are always trying to find new places that serve Hainan Chicken since it’s one of our favorite dishes and were very excited that they’ve added that to their  menu since Chop Chop Grill is so close to home. We came for dinner around 7:00PM was relatively empty (although it got packed within minutes of us sitting down after our order) and ordered two Hainan Chickens ($10.00) and a order of paratha (similar to roti) for the boyfriend to munch on.

The entree that was served came with a bowl of chicken broth soup, Hainan chicken served on top of flavored rice and three sauces that included a sort of soy sauce, ginger scallion and a sweet and spicy sauce. My favorite was their ginger scallion, it tasted SO fresh and delicious as if they made it themselves. It went perfect with the chicken giving it an aromatic flavor as well as a slight hint of spiciness. Their bowl of chicken soup was really delicious, very light and refreshing with great taste that wasn’t overwhelming or lackluster. Best time to drink it is when it’s fresh out of the kitchen!

We were also very impressed with their chicken, it tasted almost similar to Side Chick’s Hainan Chicken rice. It was tender and flavorful although lacked a bit of juiciness that we were familiar with with Side Chick, but very tasty nonetheless. My boyfriend noted the rice was very fragrant and flavorful, loved how the rice wasn’t overcooked and had the perfect amount of chicken oil taste. He even opted for my share to take to work for lunch the next day. Even with my specific diet (no rice) the chicken portions were good enough that made me full and satisfied. We left very happy with our meal and definitely would come again and recommend to friends as well for tasty and affordable Hainan chicken. 🙂
