GoodFellas Cafe

As always, I’m constantly looking for new places that serve breakfast during their lunch hours whether it be hip and trendy places in DTLA or mom-and-pop diners, I’m always searching. Since we were in Corona to meet a seller to sell some stuff one weekend we thought we’d grab brunch around the vicinity. I hopped onto Yelp! and stumbled across GoodFellas Cafe, they had plenty of reviews and seemed overall positive, I strummed through their photos and everything looked delicious as well and decided this place seemed to be place worth trying AND it was down the street from where we were.

When we arrived the parking lot was packed so we can see that they were pretty popular. We managed to snag a spot a little ways off from the restaurant and made our way to the front door. There were people standing around the outside and filled the inside waiting and so we were slightly worried the wait time would be really long, but thankfully there was only me and my boyfriend rather than the the large family groups that was still waiting for a table. Their inside is very old fashion themed with retro furniture and setup that resembled the 1950s-1980s. It’s packed with family photos of sorts on the wall (although their wall were actor photos from the Goodfellas movie). It’s a very interesting and family-oriented atmosphere. We went to the cash register (even this was an old fashioned cash register!) and jotted down our name. Luckily, we only waited about ten minutes before we were sat at a nice booth by a window. Although I’m not sure if it’s because the place filled with patrons or maybe the restaurant didn’t have much ventilation, but it was very warm and humid inside the restaurant that the air felt musty and wet when we sat down.

Our waitress was swift and efficient and got our orders in within minutes of sitting down, we ordered Country Fried Steak ($13.75) for the boyfriend and an Egg White (custom order) Garden Omelette ($10.95) sans jack cheese/toast and a side of hash brown with sourdough toast for him and home fries for me. Our food arrived in a timely matter and they looked wonderful! First bite into the omelette was delicious, hot off the pan and freshly stuffed with onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach and a heaping serving of avocados! The egg white wasn’t dry or overcooked, thank goodness. It was fluffy and cooked to perfection. The highlight of the dish was the home fries though, nicely sliced potatoes tossed with bell peppers and onions on the skillet gave the potatoes an amazing aroma and flavor that both boyfriend and I loved it. Boyfriend really enjoyed his country fried steak, although the meat wasn’t a whole slice of steak (it was ground meat instead) like Corky’s he still thought it was well cooked and had good flavor.

Here’s a tip! We used the avocados from my dish and the sourdough toast from my boyfriend’s order and made basically FREE avocado toast! 🙂

Their food was delicious and service was quick and efficient even when the place was packed to the brim with large family groups, we would definitely come again!
