Another beautiful Saturday means another delicious healthy recipe in the kitchen!
I don’t usually purchase seafood that often since they’re so expensive, but when they’re on sale I go ahead and buy the lot. Bought a pound of these delicious shrimps from my neighborhood Cardenas for only $1.99 a pound to create some garlic shrimp for dinner.
The ingredients you need:
1 pound of headless shrimp
1 clove of garlic
A pinch of salt
A drizzle of olive oil
I always devein my shrimps when I cook at home. It always grosses me out when restaurants don’t, but I can also understand why as it takes quite some time to properly clean each one. Most supermarkets do have deveined shrimps for sale and it’s usually cooked as well in the frozen deli, but it’ll cost you more. I find buying the shelled headless shrimps and cleaning them at home is cheaper.
To properly devein a shrimp you have to first peel the shrimp then using a paring knife you’re going to make a shallow slit along the back from the head end to the tail end. Look for the black sand vein that runs along the center of the back. If the vein is there, use the tip of the knife to carefully remove and discard it, as shown. Rinse the shrimp under cold running water.
Shrimps cook ridiculously fast so I generally put them in last. Dice the garlic toss them in with the olive oil. Let it simmer and cook until aromatic then finally toss in the shrimp. Cook everything for about 30-40 seconds until shrimp is orange. Then voilà! Plate and you’re done. Feel free to use other spices if you feel like adding a little more oomph. 🙂 Cheers!
