Toast

A little gem that’s hidden in the midst of a rather dull looking street. We were pointed to this little restaurant thanks to a friend’s social media posts. The food looked amazing and so of course I bookmarked it on my list of brunch places to try as you know I am a HUGE fan of brunch. Upon arrival, it’s good to see that they has a wide parking lot that provided plenty of parking spaces. It wasn’t difficult to find a space, we parked our bikes and could see that there was a waiting list.

Albeit good food (which will be mentioned later), I do see some areas as to where they can improve on. When we walked in there was no sign of a sign in sheet/waiting list. We weren’t sure if we were supposed to wait for a hostess or something to come and give us a number and given that the restaurant itself it pretty tiny we didn’t want to stand around and take up space. We ended up walking to the cash register to let them know that we would like to put our name down for seats. They gladly took our information down as we went back outside to wait. It would be more efficient to leave a waiting list sign in sheet outside so people aren’t so confused.

Mind you, the waiting area outside their store had no shade whatsoever and it was easily 95 degrees the day we went. We stood in the sun baking until we noticed that they actually had a waiting area two doors down called “The Attic” full of board games, game consoles, ping pong tables, tables to sit, crayons, and coloring books. I didn’t understand why none of the other people waiting outside their door and us as well were not informed by the workers of this area, instead they let us bake in the 95 degree weather. It would be nice if staff let their waiting customers know that they have a waiting area two doors down that is equipped with games to pass the time.

Although it’s nice that they do have an outdoor patio area so they’re actually pet friendly. We finally get seated after 40 minutes of waiting (double what we were told) and we ordered their Santa Barbara Toast (1 avocado spread, 1 cream cheese spread) which consisted of layers of delicious Norwegian cold smoked salmon, fresh dill, and red onions on top of avocados or cream cheese with a side serving of fruits or house potatoes. We also ordered the Veggie omelette made fresh with portabella mushroom, spinach, onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers. The omelette was amazingly flavorful with great texture from the vegetables and the eggs weren’t overcooked. Boyfriend raved on the SB Toast because it was always hard to find a place that gave good portions of salmon with a heaping serving of avocados for a good price.

Our servers were also very efficient and friendly although the start was rocky when we arrived and I would’ve left them with an average rating of 3/5 stars but the food and the conclusion of the entire meal and service ended being far better than we had expected so I’ll be bumping this place up another star for good value on actually good quality food.
