Brunch Pt. Deux

If you don’t already know, you can tell by now that my favorite meal of the day is probably breakfast most commonly known as ‘brunch’ in my vocabulary since I usually don’t get up early enough for breakfast during the weekend. I’ve also made one other post listing a few places that I love to grab brunch at and now I’ve created another one as I go explore more places that serve delicious breakfast dishes.

Another amazing spot in the Fairfax area. This lovely restaurant has open windows and outdoor seating, although I highly suggest indoors when the temperatures are high. I managed to snag a window sit that allowed plenty of sunlight and ordered the wild mushroom dish with side serving of roasted onion fingerling potatoes. The entire dish was divine, especially the grilled onions, it gave the potatoes an amazing set of flavors. It was sweet and savory complemented with the egg scramble of roasted shallots and pea tendrils. Definitely something to try ! On the flip side, I hear this location can get busy so reservations are always recommended!

Old Vine Cafe – @oldvinecafe
2937 Bristol St., #A102, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
They’re located inside The CAMP retail and entertainment center in Costa Mesa, Orange County. It’s a very pretty place tucked inside the plaza with cozy wood panels matched with aged metal to give it that rustic look. They have this amazing patio that’s surrounded by greens and foliage, and heat lamps if you’re too cold. I loved the atmosphere. As for their dishes, they have a very interesting take on their vegetarian omelettes that I really enjoyed. Instead of using the usual button or crimini mushrooms, Old Vine Cafe actually uses shiitake mushrooms which gives it more earthy flavor to the dish, but it’s sliced thin enough that the taste isn’t so overwhelming that it destroys the overall components of the other ingredients.

crema

The Crema Cafe & Artisan Bakery – @cremacafe
322 Main St, Seal Beach, CA 90740
If it wasn’t so far I’d frequent this place more often, but since it’s located in Seal Beach it’s kind of a far trek for breakfast. I generally like to come early because it is popular and has a crowd. 9:30 am has always been a good time, not that long of a wait and tables are readily available. My favorite is their option for egg white sub on their vegetarian omelette, it’s full of fresh spinach and mushroom. I hear great things on their Nutella french toasts and their artisan bakery. They also have amazing iced teas for the summer heat, I highly recommend the iced peach green tea. Parking can be difficult to find as they are set up in a downtownesque system where it’s all street parking.

Great atmosphere with wide open windows, love the natural lighting and very open space concept. It seems to get really busy at this small cafe because when we got there there was a line already. Due to the location being really tight in space, everyone had to line up outside. It kind of sucks when it’s 90+ degrees outside, but the staff was kind enough to bring out water for everyone that was waiting to order and be seated, so come early to find parking and beat the crowd. They have individual tables and communal tables as well. We ended up sitting at the communal table with few other patrons. Their scramble is a-maz-ing, great flavors of savoriness from the bacon bits with really well paired mushroom flavors. Their fresh pressed orange juice is also a great side addition to the meal.

JiST Cafe – @jistcafe
116 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
I love that there’s an endless array of brunch spots in DTLA, this little gem was procured via Yelp when I was looking for new breakfast places to try. They have public parking across the street in a parking structure, I believe $2.00 for the first hour or so. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming when we stepped in, although we noticed that the interior space was very tiny. They’re mostly outdoor seating (patio), but even in the shade the 108 degree weather was sweltering. I highly suggest indoor seating when the weather is too hot, but the patio is really lovely and sits right next to an art museum. I ordered the Angeleno Veg Scramble which is vegetarian and consists of scrambled eggs, brussel sprout leaves, zucchinis, and mushrooms tossed with a bit of lemon zest. It’s very delicious array of vegetables and the eggs were scrambled perfectly so that they weren’t overly dry. The best part was the serving sizes were very generous as well. I could’ve easily shared my dish with someone else and the prices are surprisingly cheap for LA eats.
